A freight brokerage company in Clayton is looking to add an entry level Outside Sales Representative to join their growing team! This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity - candidates can expect to start off around $35, 000 annually. There is a commission structure in place that allows for the potential for additional compensation, and candidates will be fairly compensated for the amount of business they bring in - salary adjustments will take place as their accounts and sales grow.    The ideal candidate for this role will have a "go-getter" attitude with a sales focus, along with previous sales experience. The candidate in this role should be comfortable with contacting prospective and existing customers, via phone, email, and in person as necessary.      JOB DUTIES:
  • Broker materials directly from suppliers to consumers at a profitable margin
  • Perform market research regarding new potential customer leads, and new potential product/material leads
  • Interpret market information to identify strengths and weaknesses in the market(s)
  • Work with other account managers/account executives on various company projects
  • Travel to and meet with current and potential suppliers and customers to determine needs and review inventory/quality of inventory
  • Build and maintain relationships with prospective and current suppliers and customers
  • Verify credit standings and lines of credit for new and existing customers
  • Confirm and manage transportation/shipping requirements for suppliers and customers, notifying the customer service team of any requirements or changes
  • Work with suppliers and customers regarding any problems or quality issues and provide resolutions in a timely manner
  • Communicate with the customer service team regarding orders and order status
  • Attend industry conferences


This opportunity will require extensive travel - the candidate in this role should expect to travel a minimum of 75 days (approx 2.5 months) per year. Candidates will be required to fly and/or drive to customer/supplier sites, depending on the location. 
  • At least 1 year of previous outside sales experience required
  • Previous experience working in the plastics, wood, paper, scrap metal, or similar material industry strongly preferred 
  • Customer service focus with the ability to build and maintain relationships with contacts required
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • The ability to travel via plane and extensively via car, along with a valid driver's license, and an acceptable motor vehicle record required
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 75 days per year required
