Machine Operators in the Northland 15-16/HR

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for assembly and production of concrete forming systems using simple machines including punch presses, drill presses, shears, saws, notchers, dip and oil forms, grinders, move and carry forms and manual labor.

 

  Labor

  • Assembles forms and part
  • Lifts and maneuvers forms and parts
  • Prepares forms and parts for shipment
  • Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion.

 

 Inspection and Paperwork

  • Measures forms and parts using tape measure and calipers
  • Inspects parts for quality
  • Completes quality checklist
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery
  • Follows Quality Control Checklist

Measures personal performance hourly and notifies Team Leader or Plant Supervisor when there is a lack of work

 

  Use of Tools and Machines

  • Produces quality specified parts and products using assigned machinery and hand tools
  • Anticipates, recognizes, and communicates when machine malfunctions or is in need of maintenance
  • Operates 10% of the machinery with instruction and general supervision
  • Follows the 1st Piece Inspection Procedure without deviation

 

  Communication

  • Communicates verbally with co-workers, Team Leaders and other employees
  • Understands and follows instructions and listens and gets clarification
  • Participates in meetings

 

Job Specifications

Education and/or Experience Required

Qualified candidate should have a high school diploma or its equivalent. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-1 years of experience in the field or in a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

 Previous experience in punch press, press brake, drill press, shear or vertical machining equipment, and an understanding of Operator Process Control highly preferred.

 

Knowledge of manufacturing process is desirable.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Must be trainable in English paperwork.

 

Mathematical Skills

Must be proficient in the use of tape measure and calipers, other metric measurements, and basic math.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

 

Personal Skills

Dependable; concern for work-safety program; willingness to pitch in and work in areas other than outlined in the job description. Work in a team environment and independently. Works with integrity and ethically. Upholds organizational values.

 

Physical Effort:

Frequent lifting of 5-35 pounds, occasional lifting of 50 pounds; frequent use of hands, gross manipulation, and major hand movements, and simple grasping; occasional pushing of 150-200 pounds, pulling of 150-200 pounds; occasional power gripping, hand and body twisting; frequent walking, standing, bending, stepping up and down, carrying, and reaching.

Work Standards and Conditions

Be able to work with general supervision. Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

 

Weather conditions vary between extremely hot to cold.

 

Noise level is high and standard protocols are to be followed to maintain a safe environment, including but not limited to ear plugs, gloves, and appropriate clothing.

 

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Maintain high quantity and quality of work.

Other Requirements:

Must be able to maintain regular attendance per current attendance standards.

 

Must be available to work 1st shift,  Saturdays; overtime, and other

 1st Shift : 5 am to 3:30 pm  Mon - Thur, 5 am to  2:30 pm Friday, 5 am to  12 pm on Saturdays
